Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My old toilet had been giving me trouble for a while—it was outdated and just not working properly anymore. I knew it was finally time for a replacement, so I reached out to Ehret Plumbing.
I was greeted by a friendly staff member from their office and was pleasantly surprised to be scheduled for the same day. Jorge came out and provided me with a quote. The price was reasonable, so I decided to move forward.
He returned the next day to replace the toilet and was friendly, efficient, and professional throughout the entire process. Everything went smoothly, and I’m really glad I chose Ehret. I would definitely recommend them to anyone in need of plumbing work.

El Cerrito sits between Albany and Richmond, with neighborhoods that reflect generations of East Bay residential development. From mid-century homes in Fairmount and Madera to hillside properties in the Terrace and El Cerrito Hills, local plumbing systems often face familiar challenges: aging galvanized water lines, older clay sewer laterals, recurring drain blockages, and water heaters approaching the end of their service life.

For homeowners in the hills, steep terrain and established landscaping can make underground sewer repairs particularly challenging. Traditional excavation may require disturbing gardens, walkways, driveways, or retaining-wall areas. When site conditions allow, trenchless sewer replacement offers an alternative that can reduce surface disruption.

Ehret Co. Plumbing & Heating has served East Bay homes and businesses since 1910. Our licensed plumbers bring experience with older plumbing materials, sewer-line problems, water heater systems, and the practical challenges of working on hillside properties.

Whether you need drain cleaning near San Pablo Avenue, water heater repair in Fairmount, or sewer replacement in the hills, Ehret Co. is ready to help.

Need a reliable plumber in El Cerrito? Call 510-528-4292 or request service online for drain cleaning, water heater repair, rooter service, sewer repair, and emergency plumbing.

Why Local El Cerrito Plumbing Experience Matters

Much of El Cerrito’s housing was developed during the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s. Homes from this period may still contain plumbing materials that have been operating for decades.

Galvanized supply pipes can corrode internally, restricting water flow and contributing to pressure problems. Older cast iron drains may deteriorate or accumulate buildup. Clay sewer laterals can develop cracks, separated joints, and root intrusion as surrounding trees mature.

The city’s hillside geography introduces another consideration.

Properties in the Terrace, El Cerrito Hills, and other elevated neighborhoods may have steep yards, limited equipment access, and established landscaping. These conditions can make conventional sewer excavation more complicated.

Ehret Co. understands the difference between repairing an accessible drain line in a relatively level property and replacing an underground sewer lateral on a sloped lot.

Our team evaluates the existing system and recommends appropriate solutions based on pipe condition, property access, and the work required.

For qualifying properties, trenchless sewer replacement can provide a practical alternative to extensive excavation.

Plumbing Services in El Cerrito, CA

Ehret Co. provides residential and commercial plumbing services throughout the city and surrounding communities.

Our primary services include:

Drain Cleaning in El Cerrito

Slow-moving drains and recurring clogs can interfere with daily activities and may indicate buildup or blockages inside the plumbing system.

Older properties may have cast iron drain lines that have accumulated years of grease, soap residue, hair, mineral scale, and other debris.

Ehret Co. provides professional drain cleaning for:

Kitchen sinks
Bathroom sinks
Showers and bathtubs
Toilets
Laundry drains
Floor drains
Branch drain lines
Main drain lines

Our plumbers use professional equipment to clear obstructions and restore drainage.

If the same blockage repeatedly returns, the problem may involve a damaged pipe or a larger sewer-line issue requiring additional work.

Water Heater Repair and Replacement in El Cerrito

A failing water heater can disrupt showers, laundry, dishwashing, and other everyday household needs.

Ehret Co. provides water heater repair and replacement for homeowners experiencing:

No hot water
Inconsistent water temperatures
Pilot light or ignition problems
Faulty valves or serviceable components
Unusual popping or rumbling noises
Rust-colored hot water
Aging equipment that needs replacement

Many mid-century homes have had their original water heaters replaced multiple times. Even newer units eventually experience component failures or reach the end of their service life.

Our plumbers can evaluate the equipment and recommend repair or replacement based on its condition.

Important: A leaking water heater tank is not repairable. If the tank itself is leaking, the water heater must be replaced.

Ehret Co. can help homeowners select an appropriately sized replacement system for their property.

Rooter Service in El Cerrito

Tree roots are a common concern for older underground sewer lines, particularly where established vegetation grows near aging clay piping.

Roots can enter through cracks or separated joints and gradually restrict wastewater flow.

Warning signs include:

Ehret Co. provides professional rooter service to remove obstructions and restore flow.

If root intrusion continues, our team can help determine whether the sewer lateral needs repair or replacement.

Sewer Repair in El Cerrito

Aging sewer laterals can develop structural problems after decades underground.

Clay sewer lines may be affected by shifting soil, root intrusion, cracks, separated joints, and deterioration.

Ehret Co. provides sewer cleaning, repair, and replacement services for residential and commercial properties.

Depending on the condition of the line, the appropriate solution may involve:

Our plumbers evaluate the problem and explain the available repair options.

Understanding Stege Sanitary District Sewer Requirements

The Stege Sanitary District serves El Cerrito, Kensington, and part of the Richmond Annex. The district maintains information about private sewer laterals, registered plumbing contractors, and applicable sewer requirements.

Homeowners considering sewer work should review the district’s guidance, particularly when work may involve permits, lateral replacement, or compliance requirements.

Trenchless Sewer Replacement in El Cerrito

Hillside properties can present additional challenges when an underground sewer line needs replacement.

Steep slopes, retaining walls, established gardens, narrow access routes, and finished driveways can make conventional excavation disruptive.

For qualifying properties, trenchless sewer replacement may allow a deteriorated sewer line to be replaced while reducing the amount of surface excavation required.

This can be especially beneficial for homes in:

Not every sewer line is suitable for trenchless replacement.

Ehret Co. evaluates the existing pipe, access points, layout, and site conditions before recommending an approach.

For homeowners concerned about preserving landscaping and reducing excavation, trenchless methods are worth discussing.

Emergency Plumbing in El Cerrito

Plumbing emergencies can occur at any time.

A burst pipe, sewer backup, major plumbing leak, or failed water heater may require immediate professional attention to limit property damage.

Ehret Co. provides 24/7 emergency plumbing service for urgent problems such as:

Burst pipes
Major active plumbing leaks
Sewer backups
Overflowing fixtures
